WHERE DID THIS SONG COME FROM?

The entire Ingress EP was born while I was making Pulse of the New Machines. There’s more to that story inside TEAMWHEAT+, but this song began with the opening riff and a simple idea: moving into and through...something. What that “something” was, I didn’t entirely know yet. Sometimes a song begins with a clear subject. Sometimes it begins with a sound that already knows where it’s going, and your job is to follow it. “Ingress” was the second kind.

HOW DID YOU BUILD IT?

I laid down the drums first, then layered guitars and bass over them. The opening riff established the motion, but the arrangement revealed the rest, one part opening the way for the next. As it grew, I realized it didn’t belong on Pulse. It wasn’t that I disliked it. Quite the opposite: the concept stayed stuck in my head. Every record eventually tells you what it is... and what it isn’t. “Ingress” still felt like Anarchosis, but it didn’t feel like Pulse of the New Machines. So I pushed it aside. Not everything left off an album is discarded. Sometimes it’s the beginning of another record quietly waiting for you to notice it.

WHEN DID ANOTHER RECORD BEGIN TO FORM?

While I continued writing Pulse, more songs emerged with the same problem. They didn’t belong on that album, but they clearly belonged together. They shared some blood and machinery with Pulse, but moved differently...more spacious, more inward, harder to trace to one familiar corner of metal or rock. Eventually, those songs stopped feeling like leftovers. They became Ingress.

WHAT CHANGED WHEN YOU ADDED THE VOCALS?

The music gave me room to use several different parts of my own voice and not merely stacked harmonies, but distinct voices moving through the song and blending into something larger. I spent a lot of time honing the singing, harmonies and the way those voices fit together. Sometimes they stay separate. Sometimes they merge into what feels like a new voice, at least for me. I’ve made a lot of music in a lot of styles, but nothing that feels quite like this. With Ingress, the roads that led there were harder for me to see. It feels like something of its own.

WHAT DO THE LYRICS MEAN?

I know what I was writing about, but I don’t usually explain exactly what my lyrics mean. My interpretation shouldn’t become instructions for yours. Take whatever you hear in them. If the song becomes something completely different for you, that’s cool. We aren’t the same person. The same words entering two people and becoming two different things is one of the best parts of making music. I’ve watched listeners transform songs so completely that years later even I have trouble remembering where they began. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it’s wild.

WHY IS “INGRESS” THE OPENER?

Because everything else passes through it. The song introduced the movement, atmosphere and vocal language the EP would explore. “Ingress” means entry...the act of going in. That was embedded in the opening riff before the EP had a name.

AND WHERE DOES “EGRESS” FIT?

“Egress” completed the other end. I wrote it after the EP had taken shape, but it didn’t feel like adding a sixth song. It felt like discovering the ending that had been waiting there the entire time. If Ingress is entering and moving through something, Egress is what happens when you emerge, or realize leaving was always part of the journey. It was inevitable. There was no getting around it.

WHY KEEP THE EP AWAY FROM STREAMING?

Because this one feels special and separate from everything else I’ve done. The Ingress EP will not be released on streaming platforms or sold as a public digital release. Its digital home is TEAMWHEAT+. The title track is the single doorway left open for everyone who joins TEAMWHEAT. The complete six-song journey, from Ingress through Egress waits on the other side. Maybe I’ll make more music in this style someday. Maybe I won’t. Either way, this record will remain here. A limited physical release could happen someday for TEAMWHEAT+ members. But digitally, this is where Ingress lives.

TEAMWHEAT+ opens the complete six-song EP, plus six complete songs from Pulse of the New Machines before its public release. Twelve complete Anarchosis songs are waiting on day one, alongside production stories, alternate material, archive discoveries and at least one worthwhile new piece every month. And another thing...there's five older song songs in there on day 1 too, four of which never made their way to an album. They were only played live. Wait...there's gonna be at least one brand new Tim Wheat song in there to. "The Shape of Coming Home", a song first written in 2001, fought and struggled against for three or four years before being abandoned...and finished in about an hour in 2026 when I stumbled across the doggone thing again while gathering riffs for Pulse... What a world! The coolest part about all of it in my opinion? Upon release...nobody has heard anythnig off of Ingress other than me. I mean...no one. I'm sure my wife and children have heard me screaming and yelling in the basement and probably/technically have heard it...but they don't pay me much mind when I'm down there anymore. Lol.

THE WORKSHOP HAS ANOTHER WING.

Music is only part of what gets built here. TEAMWHEAT+ will also open the doors around the books: early chapters, works in progress, deleted scenes, research, story notes and occasional pieces that may never belong anywhere else. The same idea applies: the finished books go into the world. TEAMWHEAT+ follows the road that leads there.
